Dive the top five sites in Thailand on one incredible trip.
After your first night in Thailand at the Royal Phawadee Resort in Patong, Phuket on the 30th, you'll board The Junk live-aboard for 5 nights in the Similan Islands. The June Hong Chian Lee is one of several junks built in Penang, Malaysia, in 1962 as a merchant vessels that traded along the coastline from Burma to Malaysia. In 1997 she changed owners and she was completely restored and set up as a premier live-aboard vessel. Sailing on The Junk will give your the feeling of being on the high seas on a pirate ship. But despite the reputation of pirate ships, The Junk has the best food and crew to be found in the Similans! For an in-depth look at The Junk, click on this link: www.thejunk.com
While on The Junk, you'll dive Richilieu Rock, the most iconic dive site in Thailand. It's covered in purple coral and anemones, and frequented by huge schools of jacks and barracuda. There's incredible macro life, and the opportunity for truly special encounters with manta rays and whale sharks.
Other scheduled sites in the Similans include Koh Bon, with the opportunity to see black tip reef sharks and more manta rays, and Koh Tachai, with its unique boulder formations and huge schools of fish.
When we leave The Junk, we'll land transfer to the beautiful island of Koh Lanta, with its pristine beaches, laid back island vibe, and the best land-based diving in Thailand. You'll stay in an air conditioned bungalow at the Lanta Pearl Beach Resort which provides a pool and family restaurant, and is just steps away from Lanta's most popular beach, Pra-Ae (Long) Beach. From our base on Koh Lanta, we'll spend five days diving (3 tank dives) with the friendly pros from Flip Flop Divers, 3 dives each day. You'll dive Hin Daeng and Hin Muang, which are the number 2 and number 3 dive sites in Thailand. Named Red Rock and Purple Rock for the coral that covers them, they serve as a beacon for sea life in the area - and there's always the chance for manta magic!
Another site which you will visit, is Koh Haa, which is one of our favorites, and which just does not get enough attention. It has everything for a great dive, but its big schools of yellow back snapper are our favorite and always make for good video or stills. And there's still other sites to come.
